Crisis Management Bookstore

Welcome to our Bookstore. Since so many of you ask us for referrals to high-quality materials related to crisis management, PR, online business development and related fields, we looked for organizations with which we could affiliate to bring you information that they offer, including what we expect to be a steadily increasing number of items for which we are the primary authors or interview subjects.

If you have any trouble whatsoever with the "shopping carts" at these sites, the Webmasters there have assured me that they'll respond quickly to email. And if they don't, let us know by writing to jonathan@bernsteincrisismanagement.com or by calling Jonathan Bernstein at (626) 825-3838. We'll handle such "crises" promptly!

Keeping The Wolves At Bay: A Media Training Manual
by Jonathan Bernstein.

Have you ever wanted an easy-to-read, entertaining way to learn more about the mysteries of dealing with the media? A 60-page manual that can educate you, sit on your desk (or, electronically, on your computer desktop) for instant reference when a reporter calls? One that tells you EXACTLY what to do and what not to do — instructions, not theory?

That's what you'll you'll find in the newly revised and expanded Keeping the Wolves at Bay This manual covers both crisis and non-crisis media relations — but face it, when you REALLY want it is when the stuff hits the fan.

Most media trainers don't give away their "trade secrets" unless they're training you. But I know that you don't learn how to drive a car just from reading a manual. This publication is NOT a substitute for professional media training. It is a primer, a reference tool — and (hint, hint) a great professional gift for any spokesperson.

If you'd like heavily crisis-focused media relations advice right at your fingertips Keeping the Wolves at Bay: A Media Training Manual, Version 3.0 is for you. Available in print and PDF formats.

If you're interested in bulk quantities (discounted, minimum purchase 10 copies), write to me directly, jonathan@bernsteincrisismanagement.com.

Crisis Management & The Law (CD-ROM)
by Jonathan Bernstein.

On February 23, 2005, Jonathan Bernstein played talk show host and expert commentator in a one-hour teleseminar featuring internationally renowned litigation PR expert Richard Levick and one of the country's top white collar crime attorneys, Ed Novak.

This CD-ROM is a "must have" to play for the executive staff of any organization, for practice group meetings at law firms, or for the entire staff of any PR agency. It captures the full teleseminar in which we answered questions such as:

  • If the attorney and PR person disagree, to whom should the CEO listen most closely?
  • When do PR considerations outweigh legal considerations, and vice versa?
  • What types of legal matters require close collaboration between legal and PR counsel?
  • What can a PR person do when dealing with an attorney who just doesn't "get it" with regard to crisis communications?
  • What can an attorney do when his client doesn't seem to understand the need for complementary PR?
  • What are some "right way/wrong way" examples that illustrate the principles of effective crisis management in legal matters?

Whether attempting to prevent or respond to crises, constructive and successful interaction between attorney and public relations professional can significantly enhance results. Conversely, if they're butting heads, the results can be disastrous. Wise attorneys know that public relations considerations must be included in a CEO's deliberations, and vice versa. Not just when faced with litigation, but also when engaged in other sensitive transactions.

The Nastiest Media Tricks and How to Prevent or Respond to Them

On January 28, 2004, Jonathan Bernstein interviewed and exchanged tips and war stories with two nationally renowned media trainers -- Judy Hoffman and Bob Aronson -- in a live teleseminar entitled The Nastiest Media Tricks and How to Prevent or Respond to Them. This is a recording of that event.

Guest Judy Hoffman is author of Keeping Cool on the Hot Seat: Dealing Effectively with the Media in Times of Crisis and Dealing Effectively with Angry People, an audio CD workshop. Judy refined her crisis management skills during 16 years as a spokesperson for the chemical industry.

Joining Judy was Bob Aronson, author of two books -- The Simple Truth, about how to succeed in news media interviews and Simply Speaking, which offers a formula for persuasive communication and compelling presentations. His experience includes a career as a broadcast journalist and directing communications for both a state university and a Minnesota governor.

Questions answered in the presentation included:

  • What are the sneakiest, nastiest, most conniving tricks reporters have pulled against organizations or individuals in crisis?
  • What nasty tricks are, in fact, ethical by journalistic standards?
  • What's the difference between a nasty trick and good investigative/feature reporting?
  • How do you avoid becoming a victim of nasty media tricks?
  • If you've become a victim of a nasty media trick, what do you do?
  • Is it OK to blacklist certain media, refuse to talk to them?
  • How do you deal with clearly biased media?

Anyone who has questions after hearing the program can submit them to Jonathan Bernstein, who will share them with Bob and Judy for their responses as well.     US$95. Click Here to order.

Producing Your Own Newsletter

I am frequently asked questions about how to produce a successful newsletter, and I always try to be as helpful as I can, but a few words of advice are no substitute for some education that can make the process simple. I've identified a resource on email newsletter development that you may find extremely useful. Alexandria Brown, dubbed "The E-zine Queen," appears to know what she's talking about.
