Researchers are now reporting the Ebola outbreak that's already claimed more than 1,500 lives in West Africa can likely be traced to a single person. One person who, unaware they were infected, started a deadly chain. 

The scientists have identified the trail of the outbreak, an outbreak that killed five members of the research team who sought to track it, but that doesn't mean the end is in sight. In fact, the World Health Organization predicted Thursday that the outbreak could eventually infect more than 20,000 people, and asked for $490 million to help stem the tide of Ebola.

This particular crisis is spreading through West Africa, but the possibility of pandemic disease is a real one that can strike any continent and, in some cases, migrate much more easily than Ebola.

I enjoyed my recent participation in the University of Oregon's "Guest Executive" program so much that I would love to do more of the same at other schools that aren't TOO far a trip from my Los Angeles-area base. Over a two-day period, UO had me guest lecture/teach at four PR-related classes and make an "open to the public" speech. They covered all travel costs and a modest honorarium.
