Holding onto your good reputation is much simpler than repairing damage

Today’s Crisis Management Quotable comes to us from Thomas Paine, who proved his understanding of the public when his famous pro-independence pamphlet Common Sense helped ignite the American Revolution.

“Character is much easier kept than recovered.”  ― Thomas Paine

This is simply another way of expressing a point we frequently find ourselves trying to communicate – it is far less difficult to maintain your reputation than to repair it once it’s been damaged. If you have a solid crisis management plan in place, hiccups that could potentially bloom into reputation-damaging crises are caught and resolved before they’re able to do serious harm.

Should you choose to neglect the proper precautions, we can tell you from decades of experience that it WILL cost you far more in both time and money than it would have to do things right in the first place. What are you waiting for?
