A healthy dose of doubt will stop many crises before they start

It feels great to have everybody agreeing with you constantly…until those yes men nod their heads to a decision that lands your organization in ruins.

When you’re talking crisis management musts, the doubting Thomas is one man you NEED to have in any major discussion. With a doubting Thomas in their corner, Pearl Izumi never would have published its infamous dead dog ad, and Walmart wouldn’t be taking flak for carrying “naughty” Halloween costumes for toddlers.

Fact is, if you aren’t looking at how any decision your make could create negative sentiment, then you aren’t doing crisis management right. If you want to spot crises BEFORE they happen, dump the bobble-headed yes men and bring a few doubting Thomases on board.
